There is no club night on Wednesday 27 August

We will not be running a club night on Wednesday 27 August due to the Wellington Badminton Association (WBA) hosting the 2008 Wisden and Slazenger Cup from 26-30 August at the badminton hall.

The WBA needs volunteers so if you are interested please email info@badminton.net.nz or phone 04 386 1689.

2008 Club Champs

The 2008 Southern Club Champs will be held on Saturday 13 September 2008, 10am – 4pm. The Club Champs are open to all members and casual players that have played at least three times at the club since March 2008.

You can enter Male and Female singles and doubles, and mixed doubles, which are divided into A/B and C/D grade. You may choose your doubles partner and we allocate a partner for you in the mixed doubles.

There is an entry fee of $10 per event or $20 to enter the singles, doubles and mixed competitions. Your entry fee includes a BBQ lunch and fish and chip supper and entry forms have to be in by Wednesday 10 September 2008.

Wellington Secondary Schools Badminton Championships

Several junior players at Southern Badminton Club enjoyed success at the recent Wellington secondary schools badminton championships.

The girl's final was contested between Bronwyn Hopkin and Emma Garnham (both of Southern), with Bronwyn winning 21-15. The boys' doubles final saw Ishan Shah (Southern) and Tamati Leha defeat Natesh Chauhan and Rhys Hopkins (Southern) 21-14, 21-12. Chanmony Khieng was runner-up in a hard-fought girl's doubles final, Cheyenne Harper won the senior girls' singles plate final and Kel Quin won the senior boys' doubles plate final.
